A Psychodynamic Approach

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing(EMDR)

My approach emphasises a branch of psychoanalytic thought known as object relations, which focuses on how individuals form relationships with others. These relationships can create patterns of behaviour that may sometimes be painful to experience.

A fundamental principle of psychoanalytic thought is that the structure of an adult's mind and emotional life is shaped by childhood experiences. The therapeutic process aims to explore an individual's history and experiences to identify patterns of attachment, behaviour, or suffering. Psychodynamic therapy centres on listening to the patient in a non-judgmental manner.

While sessions may start by addressing the reasons the patient sought therapy, it is often beneficial to broaden the conversation to other topics the patient feels comfortable discussing, even if they seem unrelated to the initial issue. Psychoanalytic theory suggests that our conscious experiences may be influenced by unconscious reasons of which we are not aware.

Therefore, the work of psychodynamic therapy is to unveil some of these unconscious dynamics and ultimately introduce the patient to themselves. This process can significantly enhance emotional stability, ego strength, and emotional balance. Each therapy session is tailored to the individual's unique needs and can assist with a variety of presenting symptoms, including anxiety, depression, difficulties in relationships, feelings of loneliness, and processing loss or bereavement, among others.

Psychodynamic therapy is effective because of the strong relationship between the therapist and the patient. This relationship requires trust, openness, and unconditional acceptance, with the patient always placed at the centre of the therapeutic process. I am bilingual and can offer therapy in both English and Italian.

In addition to a psychodynamic approach, I also offer EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing), an evidence-based therapy that is effective for treating trauma, phobias, and various anxiety disorders.

Schedule Your Initial Consultation

I invite you to reach out and book a phone call to discuss your concerns and outline the next steps for our initial consultation. During this session, we will explore your issues in-depth and identify how we can work together effectively.

If I determine that I am not the right fit for your needs, I will gladly provide you with a trusted referral to another therapist who can assist you. Your well-being is my top priority, and I am here to support you on your journey.

The beginning of Therapy

After the initial consultation, we can decide to begin the counselling/therapy process.

In my therapy practice, I offer both short-term counselling, EMDR intervention and comprehensive psychotherapy tailored to your unique needs.

Short-term counselling is typically sought to address specific issues, such as bereavement or distress stemming from a particular event. This focused approach allows us to work together on identified concerns and find immediate relief.

At this stage, I may recommend Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) if I assess it to be the most effective intervention for your unique situation.

Psychodynamic psychotherapy differs from counselling in that it is an open-ended process that explores deeper aspects of your psyche. This approach delves into the unconscious and examines past traumas and experiences, facilitating greater self-awareness and understanding.

It's common to hear that "things may get worse before they get better" at the beginning of therapy, and this can indeed be true for some. I am here to support you as you navigate this journey. While exploring one's unconscious can be challenging, it can ultimately lead to strengthening the ego and achieving emotional balance in the long run.

Together, we will work towards a healthier and more fulfilling life. Please feel free to reach out to discuss how I can support you on your path to healing.
